Congressman Larry Bucshon:  Unemployment Rate Still Too High

(Washington, D.C.)– Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) released the following statement regarding the unemployment rate for the month of January 2011.

Congressman Bucshon states:

“I welcome the drop in the unemployment rate with open arms, but we must not become complacent.  The decrease was not in response to job creation, but due to more and more Americans becoming disgruntled and ending their search for new jobs.  This is evident with the labor force participation rate at a 26 year low at 64.2 percent.  We also saw today that 150,000 less jobs were created in 2010 than previously estimated.  Unemployment is still close to double where it was when the recession began and the only way to truly recover is to get people back to work through growing our economy.

The election of a Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives has begun to provide confidence that the Federal Government can get its fiscal house in order.  Already, I have voted to repeal the job-destroying health care law, to cut spending to 2008 levels, and to end taxpayer funding of presidential elections and partisan political conventions.  We must all work together to end the frivolous spending spree and stop the overregulation of our country’s businesses in order to get our fiscal house in order and people in jobs.”
