Dr. Bucshon Comments on President Obama's Iran Deal
(WASHINGTON, DC) – Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. released the follow statement in response to the final nuclear agreement with Iran announced by President Obama on Tuesday:
“It’s clear that President Obama completely abandoned every benchmark the Administration set at the beginning of these negotiations in what can only be called a ‘giveaway’ to the Iranian regime.
“The President has consistently negotiated from a position of weakness putting far too much trust in the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism that has history of cheating past agreements, has vowed to eliminate Israel, and continues to promote anti-American rhetoric.
“The failed negotiations by this administration have not only preserved Iran’s nuclear program, this deal puts billions of dollars into the hands of organizations that kill Americans, provides no substantial assurances for verification, and actually makes it easier for Russia to deal weapons to Iran by lifting the arms embargo.
“Despite the President’s attempt to sell this agreement as the only alternative to war, we can strengthen our negotiating position by tightening our sanctions on Iran that have already been effective. I cannot support an agreement that puts our national security at risk, jeopardizes the safety of the American people and our allies, or spurs a nuclear arms race in this unstable region. Congress should reject this deal in its current form.”
