Dr. Bucshon's Statement on Final Benghazi Report
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) –On Tuesday, Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. released the following statement after the House Select Committee on Benghazi released its final report of key facts and findings surrounding the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya that claimed four American lives:
“The House formed the Select Committee to uncover the facts of what happened on September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya on behalf of the four Americans killed, their families, and the American people," said Bucshon. "Despite repeated attempts by the administration to stonewall the investigation, the committee interviewed 81 witnesses and gained access to nearly 75,000 documents not previously available to Congress. It’s clear government officials in the White House and the State Department deliberately misled the American people regarding the cause of the attacks and failed to provide necessary security to our men and women on the ground, despite having intelligence reports outlining increased security threats. Thanks to Trey Gowdy and the entire Select Committee for their diligent and thorough work to follow the facts and produce a report worthy of the men we lost. I encourage everyone to read the committee’s findings.”
On May 8, 2014, the House of Representatives adopted H. Res. 567, Providing for the Establishment of the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi, Libya. Over the course of its fact-finding investigation, the committee interviewed 107 witnesses, including 81 who had never before been questioned by Congress. Additionally, the committee obtained and reviewed nearly 75,000 pages of new documents that had never been received by Congress.
