Congressmen Larry Bucshon on FAA Reauthorization
Washington, DC,
February 14, 2012
Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) released the following comments after President Obama signed the FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act of 2012 into law. Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states: “I am pleased that the FAA reauthorization has been signed into law. The FAA had been operating on short-term extensions for too long and this four year bill will provide certainty to Indiana’s aviation industry and many other Hoosier businesses. As the only Hoosier on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, I was pleased to provide input in crafting this bill and help ensure the safe transport of lithium batteries while fighting against costly rules and regulations on manufactures and shippers.” Boston Scientific President Mike Mahoney states: “Boston Scientific applauds the leadership of Congressman Larry Bucshon (R-IN-8) on securing provisions in the FAA reform bill recently passed by Congress that will ensure continued and timely patient access to life-saving medical devices that contain lithium batteries. The company commends Congressman Bucshon for recognizing the medical device industry's importance to Indiana’s economy and the harmful impact inappropriate regulation would have on patients and those in the state who manufacture and develop innovative medical technology.” Background: H.R. 658, FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act, is a 4 year reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration, giving long term certainty to Indiana’s aviation industry. It passed by a vote of 248 to 169. H.R. 658 included provisions to ensure the safe transportation of life-saving medical devices such as pace makers and defibrillators containing lithium batteries. The Boston Scientific Spencer, Indiana manufacturing and R&D facility employs nearly 1,000 Hoosiers. ### |
