Rep. Bucshon supports Trump administration's new Waters of the United States rule

Rep. Larry Bucshon said on Tuesday that he supports the administration’s new Waters of the United States rule. Rep. Bucshon released this statement:

“Under the Obama Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency attempted to expand the federal government’s jurisdiction to control practically any body of water, whether it be local streams, drainage ditches, wetlands, or agricultural ponds – including those on private land.  The Obama Administration’s rule would have been a massive expansion of the federal government’s power at the expense of state and local control, as well as a massive erosion of personal property rights. States, not the federal government, should be the primary regulators of waterways and water sources within their borders and this new WOTUS rule ensures just that. I applaud the Trump Administration for understanding the importance local water plays in the lives of Hoosier farmers, manufacturers, the coal industry, and land owners in the drafting of this new rule.” Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles also praised the new rule. “Today is a great day for American agriculture,” said Commissioner Quarles. “Earlier this year, I hosted Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler so that he could hear the concerns of the ag community directly from Kentucky farmers. WOTUS was a topic of discussion. This new WOTUS rule is much improved over the anti-business and anti-agriculture regulatory regime put in place by the previous administration. I thank Administrator Wheeler for working with the agricultural community, who saw this rule as a threat to our way of life.”
