Congressman Larry Bucshon has requested that his paycheck be withheld as long as the government shutdown continues. Here’s a statement released by Rep. Bucshon (R-IN): “I believe that if federal employees aren’t receiving their paychecks during the government shutdown that members of Congress shouldn’t receive their paychecks, and I have requested that my paycheck be withheld as long as the shutdown continues.” Eyewitness News reached out to other area lawmakers on Thursday about whether they are withholding any of their pay during the shutdown. Rep. Guthrie (R-KY)Congressman Brett Guthrie (R-KY) recently submitted paperwork to request that his pay be withheld until the shutdown is over. Rep. Guthrie released this statement: Sen. McConnell (R-KY)Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he has made a donation to charity that exceeds his shutdown pay. He’s also calling on Democrats to reach an agreement with the White House. Sen. Young (R-IN)Senator Todd Young (R-IN) released this statement on Thursday: “No one wants the government to be shut down but fortunately President Trump has signed legislation that I supported to ensure every government employee will be paid after the partial government shutdown ends. The President has made it clear why border security is so important but Democrats are refusing to address the humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border. The sooner we agree to secure our border, the sooner the entire government can reopen.” |
