Rep. Bucshon still hopeful of resolution to end shutdown

Representative Larry Bucshon says it is unfortunate the State of the Union address will be delayed.

But he says Congress is closer to a resolution on resolving the partial government shutdown, adding today’s Senate votes could be the beginning of the end.

“People are recognizing we have to have a compromise,” Bucshon said. “What the Senate votes will show is that neither party’s complete version of what they think will end the shutdown will pass.”

Bucshon says many of his constituents are supportive of strong border security.

“But of course, nobody likes a shutdown,” he said.  “Congress doesn’t like a shutdown.  People like myself don’t think it’s the right approach.  Sometimes this happens.  Since I’ve been in Congress the last eight years, it’s happened multiple times.  It is unfortunate.”

Bucshon mentioned the employees at the federal prison in Terre Haute who are not getting paid. The shutdown has also affected air traffic controllers and TSA workers.

Bucshon has chosen to withhold his paycheck until they get theirs.
