Tri-State lawmakers release video statements, regarding State of the Union Address
Washington,
February 5, 2019
President Trump delivered his State of the Union Address. The speech was delayed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi who cited security concerns during the shutdown. The State of the Union was unique because many feel the State of the Union is turbulent. The government is only temporarily open again, and we could face another shutdown in just days. President Trump delivered his speech to a divided Congress - a Republican Senate and a Democratic House. “Together, we can break decades of political stalemate. We can bridge old divisions...” Stacey Abrams, who lost a contested gubernatorial race in Georgia, delivered the response for Democrats. “The shutdown was a stunt engineered by the President of the United States, one that defied every tenet of fairness and abandoned not just our people, but our values.” Now, Congress will have to work out a funding deal by February 15, 2019 to avoid another shutdown.
