Dr. Bucshon Announces Winner of 2019 Congressional Art Competition

(Evansville, IN) – Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement announcing the top three finalists and the people’s choice winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition:

“I want to commend all the young artists throughout Southwest Indiana who submitted pieces for the annual Congressional Art Competition. The Eighth Congressional District is full of talented young Hoosiers with limitless potential as well as passionate teachers that are truly committed to helping their students. Congratulations to this year’s overall winner, Margaret Collins and this year’s people’s choice winner, Lillianna Melendez-Allred.”

1st Place Overall Winner - “Christmas Morning” by Margaret Collins 

The 2019 Congressional Art Competition 1st Place Overall winner, Margaret Collins, with her acrylic painting titled “Christmas Morning”. Margaret, a 12th grader from Mt. Vernon High School, will receive two round-trip airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to Washington, D.C. for the Congressional Art Competition Reception in June and will have her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for a year.

2nd Place Overall - “Reflection” by Emilee Pfettscher 


3rd Place Overall - “Beetlejuice x3 ” by Bailey Gibson 

People's Choice Winner - “Captain Lemon-pop” by Lillianna Melendez-Allred

Winning this year’s People’s Choice Award is Lillianna Melendez-Allred with her pencil drawling titled “Captain Lemon-pop”. Lilianna, a freshman from Mt. Vernon High School, had over 600 likes, shares, and comments on Facebook. Lilliana’s artwork will be displayed in my Washington D.C. office for a year.
