(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting against Democrats’ rules change (H. res. 965) that would allow them to keep the House of Representatives away from the Capitol through the end of the 116th Congress:
“Speaker Pelosi’s proxy voting scheme is unconstitutional and unnecessary. This is not the first time in the history of our nation that we have faced challenges in gathering together. However, the Founders believed it is necessary to come together and be physically present to discuss and debate ideas. Proxy voting will put the power of Congress into Congressional leaderships’ hands and disenfranchise the tens of millions of citizens the rest of us represent by shutting them out of the democratic process. Furthermore, if our brave health care workers can go to work each day to save lives then we can also come to work to support their efforts and help the American people.”
