Dr. Bucshon Supports Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics by the Nation Institute of Health

(Washington, D.C.) –
Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement in support of the National Institute of Health delivering new COVID-19 testing technologies to meet U.S. demand:

“I applaud the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) commitment to delivering new COVID-19 testing technologies to meet U.S. testing demands. Our health care workers must be armed with every tool in the toolbox to help limit the spread of this virus and investing in new testing technologies does just that. In Congress, I am working to ensure that our public health labs and health care workers will be able to access these new advancements to meet the demands. I, along with Congresswoman DeGette (D-CO), introduced the Diagnostic Testing for Public Health Labs Act and the Rapid Testing for Communities Act. These two bipartisan bills would provide grants to public health labs, hospitals and providers to help purchase testing equipment, such as high-throughput planforms for labs and point-of-care tests for hospitals, to increase our testing capacity and provide quicker turnaround times, especially in rural and underserved communities. Congress and NIH must continue our work together to harness American ingenuity, federal resources, and every tool available to increase COVID-19 testing so that we can defeat this virus.”
