Congressman Larry Bucshon Hosts U.S. Service Academy Nomination Interviews

(Evansville, IN) – Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) hosted interviews for prospective nominees to the United States Service Academies on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Congressman Bucshon provided introductory remarks and spoke with the students and their families. Interviews were held on the campus of Vincennes University and conducted by members of Congressman Bucshon’s Veterans Advisory Committee and other military and community leaders. Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states: “I was very impressed with the quality of students that have sought my nomination and applied to our nation’s Service Academies. It was rewarding for me to meet the students interested in volunteering to serve our nation by becoming military leaders. It is a very competitive and lengthy process to apply to attend an academy and I would like to commend the students who have requested my nomination. I would also like to thank the community leaders, some of them members of my Veterans Advisory Committee, for taking time out of their busy schedules and aiding with this process and helping conduct the interviews.” Background: Interviews were held for high school seniors that have applied for Congressman Bucshon’s nomination to one of the four U.S. Service Academies. There are three Department of Defense Service Academies, they are: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY is governed by regulations issued by the Department of Transportation. Nominations are to be submitted by January 31, 2012. Congressman Bucshon’s office will host events for prospective candidates this spring to educate them and their families on the process to attend a U.S. Service Academy. ### |
