In addition, Congressman Bucshon released the following statement.

Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states:

“Today is a day of many emotions, just as it was ten years ago.  What started out as a beautiful Tuesday morning quickly turned to tragedy.  As the day progressed, the American people did what we have always done in the face of adversity; we united.  During the darkest hour, we came together as a nation and refused to be intimidated by evil.  We proudly displayed our nation’s flag.  We held the hands of strangers at candlelight vigils and prayed.  On this day ten years ago, we vowed to bring those responsible to justice, to rebuild, and to never forget.

Today, we go through another range of emotions.  We begin with remembrance of the horrific and senseless acts of terror that invaded our nation.  We honor the first responders who reacted so quickly and selflessly that day and lost their lives helping others.  We honor all those that lost their lives so innocently and senselessly. We keep the families that still mourn in our thoughts and prayers.  Today we remember the regular citizens that rushed to Lower Manhattan, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania, to aide their fellow Americans. We applaud those who lined up to donate blood.  We commend the patriots that have volunteered for the armed services before and after 9/11, answering the call to help secure the freedom and security of this great nation.

The men and women of our military continue the fight against terror today.  As we gather as a community, some of our nation’s citizens are overseas, away from their families and loved ones.  Every day on the battlefield serves as a reminder to them that the freedoms we all enjoy today come at a price. They are fighting to ensure we never see a tragedy, such as occurred on September 11, 2001 happen again.

Let us never forget how we felt that day and let us never forget how we stood together, in the face of terror, and never wavered in our support for this great nation.”
