Health law concerns for cancer centers – “Cancer patients relieved that they can get insurance coverage because of the new health care law may be disappointed to learn that some the nation's best cancer hospitals are off-limits.” (AP; 3/19/14) O-Care premiums to skyrocket – “Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration.” (The Hill, 3/19/14) Florida loss exposes Democrats' disarray on ObamaCare - “Democrats are concerned the health care law’s approval ratings won’t rebound by the time voters go to the polls in November. Even more significantly, they fear the law’s unpopularity — along with President Barack Obama’s flagging approval ratings — could keep Democrats home in November, according to conversations with several top lawmakers and aides.” (POLITICO, 3/20/14) ObamaCare limits choices under some plans – “Rosenthal is one of millions of Americans who have purchased insurance under the Affordable Care Act and are discovering that many of the new plans offer a narrow network of doctors and facilities. ‘If I had anything happen, I wouldn’t want to go to a hospital that I’m not familiar with and with doctors I don’t know,’ he says.” (Bloomberg; 3/30/14) Poll: Latinos souring on ObamaCare – “A new poll shows Latinos -- a fast-growing and key demographic in American elections -- aren't as fond of ObamaCare as they once were. The Pew Research Center poll showed Hispanics are split on whether they approve of President Obama's health-care law, with 47 percent approving and 47 percent disapproving. The numbers are notable because Latinos have generally been among the health-care law's chief supporters.” (Washington Post; 3/20/14) Health insurance premiums up 39% to 56% under ObamaCare, reach $2,604 a month in California – “Americans buying health insurance outside the new ObamaCare exchanges are being forced to swallow premiums up to 56 percent higher than before the health law took effect because insurers have jumped the cost to cover all the added features of the new Affordable Care Act.” (Washington Examiner; 3/17/14) College limits part-time staff’s hours to avoid ObamaCare costs – “Starting next year the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will require that large employers offer insurance to any worker putting in more than 30 hours per week. But the 600 part-time professors at Colorado Mountain College won’t be among those who benefit from the change. That’s because CMC is prohibiting any adjunct from working more than 30 hours per week to avoid the obligation of providing its part-time labor force with insurance under President Obama’s signature healthcare law.” (Aspen Daily News; 3/17/14) To see last week’s roundup, click here. |
