WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-Ind.-08) voted against paving the way for a debt ceiling increase and condemned Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats for politicizing a fix for Medicare provider reimbursement cuts, which have always been a highly bipartisan issue. “After weeks of negotiations that I have been intimately involved in, Congress had reached an agreement to stave off Medicare reimbursement cuts to providers set to take effect January 1, 2022. Unfortunately, Democrats have chosen to play politics by tagging a mechanism to increase in the debt ceiling to the legislation, which I could not and did not support. Democrats decided to use the healthcare of American seniors as leverage to accomplish their partisan goals. I will continue to fight for seniors’ access to quality care and for all Hoosier doctors’ best interests,” said Dr. Bucshon. This afternoon, Congressman Bucshon spoke at the House Rules Committee expressing his disappointment that this critical issue for doctors was hijacked by House Democrats’ efforts to increase the debt limit. In addition to speaking at the House Rules Committee Hearing, he led the bipartisan Supporting Medicare Providers Act of 2021 that was introduced last month to extend the 2021 Medicare physician payment adjustment of 3.75% for an additional year. He also led a letter with Representative Bera (D-Calif.) along with over 245 Members of Congress urging House Leadership to address the looming these looming cuts. Congressman Bucshon also penned an op-ed for Modern Healthcare urging Congress to act to address looming reimbursement cuts that will interfere with physician reimbursement and seniors access to care. |
