Bucshon: One-Party Democrat Rule is Failing Hoosiers

WASHINGTON – Today marks the one-year anniversary since President Biden assumed the presidency with Democrats in control of both the House and Senate. In response, U.S. Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. released the following statement reflecting on the past year under one-party Democrat rule and how Hoosiers have been hurt by the Democrats’ policies.

“In the one year since President Biden assumed office alongside Democrat control of the House and Senate, America has been hit with the highest inflation rates in decades, supply chain issues that are keeping products off our shelves, heightened crime rates that threaten the safety of our communities, an ever-worsening border crisis, and a failure to provide a concrete strategy to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Democrats in Washington are failing to address the root causes of too many critical issues plaguing our country. This one-party Democrat rule is failing Americans and Hoosiers,” said Dr. Bucshon.

List of Crises Under the One-Party Democrat Rule:

Supply Chain Crisis

American consumers and producers are facing a supply chain crisis caused by factors including a shortage of needed components like semiconductors, a lack of drivers and other transportation workers, and huge backups at critical ports that are preventing critical items from being delivered across the United States.

COVID-19 Response Crisis

President Biden promised America that he had a plan to “shut down” the virus. Instead, as we enter the third year of the pandemic, Americans are still struggling to find tests, schools are still in danger of closing to in-person instruction, and too many Main Street businesses are struggling or even closing because of President Biden’s failure to deliver a concrete plan to fulfill his promise.

Afghanistan Crisis

President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan resulted in countless lives lost and weakened the position of the United States abroad. As a result, adversarial states like Iran, China, and Russia are making strategic gains at the expense of our national security and that of our allies like Israel.

Economic Crisis

Inflation has gone up every single month during President Biden’s presidency and now Hoosiers are paying more for everyday items ranging from gasoline (+49.6%) to meat at the grocery store  (+12.5%). Additionally, if you compare the employments levels from this past year to 2019, the economy has still not added a single job, and real wages have decreased eight out of the eleven months President Biden has been in office.

Fentanyl Crisis

Due to President Biden’s lackadaisical approach to the border, fentanyl continues to pour into our country. In 2021, the CDC announced that more than 100,000 Americans died annually of drug overdose for the first time, with Fentanyl and its analogues being responsible well over for over half of those deaths.

Energy Crisis

Americans are currently facing increased gas prices and high heating bills, forcing some Hoosiers to forgo basic household necessities like food and medicine to pay the energy bills. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration’s restrictive policies have prevented our own domestic energy sector from rising to the challenge of increased demand by discouraging domestic energy production and instead relying on foreign countries for our energy.

Crime Crisis

President Biden’s anti-police rhetoric has led to an influx in crime and anti-police sentiment, and murder rates are up in almost every major city across the country. In 2021 alone, there were 103 ambush style attacks resulting in 130 officers being shot. Tragically, 30 of which were killed in the line of duty.

Education Crisis

During the past year, we have seen schools around the country prioritize bureaucracies over children with closures, curriculums driven by political agendas, and attacks on school choice. The Biden Administration must start serving the needs of students because kids belong in the classroom.

Southern Border Crisis

The situation at our Southern Border is dire. The Biden Administration stopped building the wall, while a record-breaking 1.7 million illegal immigrants were apprehended along the southern border last year including multiple individuals on the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database from countries like Yemen and Serbia. The Biden Administration is more focused on granting amnesty than securing our borders.
