“What we’ve tried to do is focus on tax cuts that hit middle class workers,” he said. “As high as 70 percent of the American people are working paycheck to paycheck with their family finances.”
Congressman Larry Bucshon is expecting passage of a tax reform bill. “We do have the votes,” he said. “I think it will pass pretty easily." "We do have a handful of members in high tax states who have difficulty supporting the bill because of the removal of some of the deductions for state and local taxes. Although, we have deductions for property taxes that most members feel is adequate, especially in Indiana.” Bucshon feels the tax reform legislation will benefit the majority of his constituents. “What we’ve tried to do is focus on tax cuts that hit middle class workers,” he said. “As high as 70 percent of the American people are working paycheck to paycheck with their family finances.” Bucshon cited figures from the U.S. Chamber, which show the average middle class family in Indiana might save as much as $2,500. The congressman said the House bill does not include a rollback of the individual mandate for health insurance. “The individual mandate is a tax,” Bucshon said. “That was in the Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare.” “It was clearly a tax. It is under the purview of taxation. There are a substantial percentage of people who pay that tax. It’s mostly low-income people who can’t afford the health insurance products on the marketplace in the exchanges, so they pay this tax.” The repeal of the Obamacare individual mandate is being discussed in the Senate. It requires nearly all Americans to have health insurance or pay a penalty. |
