Washington, DC,
August 27, 2016
What do an axel, a dog, and the Evansville Police Department all have in common? Keep reading to find out. This is the "#IN08 Social Roundup," a weekly overview of Congressman Bucshon's district events, constituent work, and legislative activities as seen through his social media accounts. In case you missed it, here's what happened this week... Growing the Hoosier Ag Economy Congressman Bucshon attended events in Oaktown, Indiana and Terre Haute, Indiana where he discussed policies to help Hoosier farmers prosper. It’s no secret that farmers across the country are being hampered by overregulation from federal agencies like the EPA and that Hoosier farmers will benefit greatly from fair trade. Congressman Bucshon discussed his work on legislation to push back on the EPA and his support of fair trade that helps the U.S. export American-made-and-grown products around the world while protecting American jobs.
NSWC Crane a National Leader NSWC Crane is the third largest U.S. Navy installation in the world and the third largest employer in Southwest Indiana employing approximately 5,000 civilian personnel. Put simply, it’s a big deal for our economy in Southern Indiana and a critical component of our national security. Congressman Bucshon helped host Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral John Richardson for his first visit to the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division. Congressman Bucshon used the visit as an opportunity to highlight the hard working employees who are dedicated to supporting our war-fighters. Healthcare in the Wabash Valley Congressman Bucshon made two stops in Terre Haute focused on healthcare. He summed up the visits by saying, “As a physician, my goal is to ensure everyone has access to affordable, quality healthcare and I'm impressed by the great work being done across Indiana’s 8th District to accomplish this goal.” Jobs Jobs Jobs The U.S. economy grew a sluggish 1.1 percent in the second quarter as businesses struggle in an uncertain climate and Americans continue their search for employment. Here in Indiana, our economy is adding jobs and it’s important that Hoosiers have the opportunity to meet with prospective employers. Every year, Congressman Bucshon hosts job fairs in Evansville, Terre Haute, Vincennes and Jasper. This week, was his annual Vincennes Job Fair that included almost 30 employers offering over 800 jobs. Helping Hoosier veterans As Congressman Bucshon put it in his Facebook post, our veterans have “sacrificed so much for our country and we need to do everything we can to support them.” That’s why he visited WorkOne Western Indiana’s Vet Expo on Thursday, which is an event that helps our nation’s heroes find good jobs once they return home.
#NationalDogDay If you’re still racking your brain to figure out what an axel, dog, and the Evansville Police Department have in common, here’s your answer. Congressman Bucshon celebrated #NationalDogDay this week by snapping a picture with an Evansville Police Department canine named Axel. Constituent Services Not all of the Congressman’s work is policy-related. In fact, his office maintains a robust constituent services operation that’s primary function is to assist Hoosiers with issues with things like Social Security, the Veterans Administration, or Medicare. Something personal It’s that time of year! College freshmen across Indiana are packing up and moving to campus to start the next exciting journey in life. Congressman Bucshon and his wife Kathryn spent last weekend moving their daughter into Cornell University. Good luck to new and returning students! |
