Dr. Bucshon’s Statement on Retirement of Speaker Paul Ryan

Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after Speaker Paul Ryan (WI-01) announced that he will not seek reelection and retire at the end of the 115th Congress:

“Speaker Ryan has worked tirelessly in Congress for almost two decades fighting for conservative values.  Not only has he been a conservative thought leader in the House, but he has also provided the leadership needed to successfully transform those conservative ideas into achievements like the recently-enacted historic middle class tax cuts and efforts to rebuild our nation’s military.  As Members of Congress, we have important responsibilities to our constituents, but as a husband, wife, or as a parent, we have even more important responsibilities to our families.  Serving in Congress requires a constant balancing act between the two responsibilities, but ultimately, I think most Americans would agree that family should come first.  It is understandable that Speaker Ryan is choosing at this point in his career to retire in order to spend more time with his wife and three teenage children.”
