Dr. Bucshon Says Farewell to Outdated Tax Code on Tax Day

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement on the last Tax Day that Americans will file their taxes based on an outdated and unfair tax code:

“Americans all across the nation are filing their taxes today for the last time under the outdated, unfair, and complex tax code that was filled with loopholes for the well-connected and has been a burden on American families and job creators for far too long. Next year, as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Americans will instead file their taxes under a tax code that cuts rates at every level of income, doubles the child tax credit, doubles the standard deduction, and simplifies the process so much that many Americans will file their taxes on something as simple as a postcard.

“Not only is the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act delivering a simplified tax code that cuts taxes for all Americans in 2018, but it’s already delivering real results today for hard-working families and businesses. Since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was signed into law at the end of last year, businesses have provided millions in bonuses and wage increases and pledged billions in new investments right here at home. Small businesses are now able to reinvest in Main Street, modernize, and hire more employees – leading to record low unemployment rates. Far from being the ‘crumbs’ that Washington Democrats describe, Hoosiers have been reaching out to tell me that as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that they are keeping more of their hard-earned money and taking home larger paychecks. I firmly believe that individuals know how to spend their money better than the federal government.”
