Congressman Larry Bucshon on Payroll Tax Holiday Extension

Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) released the following comment in regards to the agreement to extend the payroll tax holiday.

Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states:

“It was important to come to an agreement before the new year.  I still believe the full year extension to provide certainty to tax payers, job creators, the unemployed, and Medicare providers is in the best interest of the American people.  Senator Reid has consented to remove the complex reporting burdens on small businesses contained in the Senate bill and will be appointing conferees that will work towards a long term solution.  House Republicans appointed our conferees earlier this week.  Congress has been resolving differences between House and Senate bills by going to conference since 1789.

“The agreement was necessary due to the fact the Senate Democrats and the White House would not come to the negotiating table to craft a full year extension due to the Holiday break.  It is with this in mind that I reluctantly agree to this path in order to prevent a tax increase on American workers that would have occurred on January 1stI will continue to work towards a full year extension of the payroll tax cut, a full year unemployment insurance extension with reforms, and a two year Medicare provider payment formula fix.
