Congressman Larry Bucshon on the State of the Union
Washington, DC,
January 24, 2012
Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) released the following comment in regards to President Obama’s State of the Union speech. Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states: “I am discouraged that President Obama would use the State of the Union to deliver another campaign speech. The American people would like a clear path to recovery and growth, yet they heard more empty promises and partisan, political rhetoric. “If the president is serious about American energy production he should expedite approval of permits for offshore drilling, just as I voted to do last year. If the president is serious about creating well paying jobs immediately he would approve the Keystone XL pipeline and encourage the Senate to take up the 27 jobs bills the House has passed. If the president was serious about fiscal responsibility he would encourage the Senate to pass a budget, something they have failed to do during the past 1,000 days. Unfortunately, the president seems to be more focused on obscuring his dismal record on deficit spending, job creation, and burdensome regulations that are crippling America’s ability to create jobs.” Background: In 2009, during his first speech to a joint session of Congress, President Obama declared he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. The reality is that there have been 3 consecutive years of trillion dollar deficits adding more than $4.6 trillion to the national debt. To view a list of jobs bills, including putting the Gulf back to work, passed by the House that remain idle in the Senate, please visit Congressman Bucshon’s website. In September 2011, the number of Americans receiving food stamps reached an all time record high of 46.2 million. Today, 15 percent of Americans receive food stamps, an increase of 45 percent since President Obama took office. Unemployment has remained above 8 percent for the past 35 months with nearly 2 million Americans losing jobs since President Obama took office. Household median income has decreased since President Obama took office in January 2009. The Keystone XL pipeline would have created 20,000 jobs immediately with President Obama’s approval. ### |
