EVANSVILLE -- With an opportunity to play an exhibition game during the Little League World Series, the Highland Challenger League will have a fundraising event Sunday at Bosse Field to help pay for travel to Pennsylvania in August. The Highland-based league was selected from more than 900 Challenger organizations across the country to be one of two teams to play the exhibition on Aug. 25 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. To pay for travel for the 15 players who will play in the exhibition as well as every player in the league and two caregivers, the Highland Challenger League is attempting to raise funds so there is no out of pocket expense to the families for travel. The league’s biggest fundraiser is Sunday’s games at Bosse Field. The Evansville Otters have donated the use of the facility and all the ticket receipts will be placed in the travel fund. Tickets are $10 apiece with the gates opening at 11 a.m. The first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Buddies who will assist players for the day will be representatives of area police and fire departments as well as EMTs. Indiana Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon will throw out the first pitch. Other fundraisers for the trip include a car wash at Town and Country Ford Superstore on June 9, a fundraiser at Wings Etc. in Evansville on June 30, a fundraiser at Highland Inn on July 28, a golf scramble at Thunderbolt Golf Course on Aug. 4 and the Lux Motor Car and Truck Show on Sept. 29.
