How EVV will use a nearly $9 million grant to make your trip to the airport less hectic

Evansville Regional Airport said the $8.9 million supplemental grant it stands to receive from the Federal Aviation Administration will be put to good use.

The funding will pay for renovations of the airport's west ramp, as well as drainage work.

Officials said the repairs will support unimpeded operations at EVV, which in recent years has seen substantial growth in passenger traffic.

U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon and U.S. Sen. Todd Young announced the grant for EVV.

Airport Director Nate Hahn said the Federal Aviation Administration was reauthorized last year for its usual $3.5 billion amount, but Congress chose to tack on an additional $1 billion in supplemental grant funding.

EVV did not receive an initial round of grant funding but succeeded on its second attempt.

The airport has been working on its west ramp for several years, but runway projects have taken precedence, Hahn said.

The supplemental grant, he said, allows EVV to wrap up the ramp repairs and take on some other infrastructure needs.

"We started a complete reconstruction years ago but were only able to do a portion," Hahn said. "From a timing standpoint, this worked out extremely well."

Bucshon, a Republican who represents Indiana's 8th District, said in a statement:

“Evansville Regional Airport is an important economic driver in Southwest Indiana, with an annual impact of more than $900 million. Improving infrastructure at the Evansville Regional Airport is vital to the continued economic development and growth of Hoosier jobs and paychecks in Southwest Indiana.”
