Dr. Bucshon Supports Emergency Funding for Humanitarian Assistance at Southern Border

(Washington, D.C.) –
Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after voting in support of the Senate amended version of the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border (H.R. 3401) to aid efforts at the Southern border due to extreme levels of migrants crossing into America:

“The crisis along our Southern border has been spiraling out of control for months but Democrats are just now acknowledging it as a crisis. President Trump asked for funding to deal with this crisis 58 days ago, and House Democrats finally realized something had to be done. The deteriorating conditions, understaffing, and overcrowded facilities could have been addressed and likely avoided if Democrats had listened to Border Patrol experts and the President when he called for funding to secure the border. This last minute vote to provide supplemental emergency funding could have been avoided, however, I support this measure that provides much needed financial assistance and allows our agencies along the border to do their jobs.”

Background

By a vote of 84 to 8, the Senate passed a bipartisan humanitarian aid bill supported by President Trump that provides $4.5 billion to address the crisis at the Southern border.
