Hope Rises for New Harmony Bridge

The bridge at New Harmony, which has been closed now for seven years may get a new lease on life soon.

Indiana 8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon is the co-sponsor of a bill removing federal holds on the span, and conveying the property to bridge authorities in Illinois and Indiana.

The bridge links New Harmony with Southern Illinois, and was a toll bridge for many years under the control of a bi-state board.

It was built in 1930 and closed because of structural concerns in 2012.

The “Re-Store the Harmony Way Bridge Act.” now heads for the U.S. Senate for consideration.
