Bill to Rename St. Joseph VA Clinic in Honor of Late Rep. Jackie Walorski is One Step Closer to Being Signed into Law

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. joined the entire Indiana House Delegation, Representative Walorski’s mother and husband, Speaker Pelosi, and others at the bill enrollment ceremony to send H.R. 8656 to the President’s desk to be signed into law. This bill would rename the Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic in Mishawaka, Indiana the “Jackie Walorski VA Clinic”.

“Jackie Walorski was not only a colleague but a close friend. I think that her work on issues related to veterans was very impressive and so, this is really an appropriate honor for this facility to be named after her. Generations will not forget the work that she has done,” said Dr. Bucshon at today’s event.

Today, the bill to rename St. Joseph VA Clinic in honor of late Rep. Jackie Walorski is one step closer to being signed into law. I am proud to have joined my colleagues and Rep. Walorski’s loved ones to honor her life and legacy to the Hoosier state.

Dr. Bucshon with Representative Walorski’s mother and husband, the entire Indiana House Delegation, and others after Speaker Pelosi signed the bill to send to the President’s desk.

Rep. Jackie Walorski served on the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs for two terms, a role in which she championed important reforms to improve the quality and accessibility of services for our nation’s military veterans and the lives of veteran constituents at home.

On Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022, Rep. Jackie Walorski, her Communications Director Emma Thomson, and her District Director Zach Potts lost their lives in a tragic car accident, which also resulted in the death of Nappanee resident Edith Schmucker, while traveling in Indiana’s second district. Rep. Walorski is survived by her husband Dean Swihart.
