WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-Ind.-08), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement after President Biden announced a plan to sell another 15 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in a bid to dampen fuel prices ahead of next month’s elections. This sale is part of the largest ever release from the SPR that started in May. “Gas prices are rising again, and instead of working with Congress to address the root causes of America’s energy crisis and develop a long-term solution to get energy prices down, the Biden Administration is depleting critical energy reserves in a last-minute bid to temporarily lower prices at the pump before the elections in November.
“The Biden Administration’s ‘America Last’ energy policies not only discourage energy production here in the United States, but are also causing increased prices at the pump, in our homes, and for our communities. My constituents and people across America should not have to choose between using their vehicles and heating their homes,” said Dr. Bucshon. The flawed policies from Democratic leadership in the House, Senate, and White House, have discouraged the production of American energy resources, which has led to record-high energy prices. In response, House Republicans unveiled their Commitment to America, a plan that would make America energy independent and reduce gas prices for Hoosiers.
