WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-Ind.-08) voted to advance the creation of two select committees: one tasked with conducting oversight on the Biden Administration’s actions, and another exploring Strategic China Competitiveness initiatives.

Dr. Bucshon issued the following statement on H. Res. 11 – establishing the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party:

“The Chinese Communist Party poses a real threat to the economic and diplomatic vitality of the United States. They have repeatedly engaged in intellectual property theft against the United States, employed unfair and anti-competitive economic practices, and used the tragedy of a global pandemic to their political advantage,” said Dr. Bucshon. “The threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party to American economic and national security touches so many different areas spread over numerous committees in the House.  With the creation of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, we can better explore critical initiatives from a big picture perspective that will ensure America remains a global leader in innovation, development, and production.”

Dr. Bucshon issued the following statement on H. Res. 12 – establishing a Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government as a select investigative subcommittee of the Committee on the Judiciary:

“For years, unelected bureaucrats across the federal government have been able to operate unchecked and use the might of the federal government to put pressure on journalists, social media platforms, and other parts of American society in an attempt to achieve their desired political goals. The American people deserve answers and clarification on these actions. Today, House Republicans are bringing that accountability forward by establishing a Select Subcommittee to ensure that the Biden Administration is held accountable for its actions. I look forward to seeing the work that will come out of the subcommittee,” said Dr. Bucshon.
