Dr. Bucshon Celebrates $2.25 Million Grant to Ports of Indiana-Mount Vernon

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN-08) celebrated that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) has awarded Ports of Indiana-Mount Vernon a $2.25 million grant to purchase a new crane able to provide a transload of 60-120-ton lifts between barge, rail, and truck. Ports of Indiana-Mount Vernon handles more cargo than any other port in the state of Indiana and with its proximity to the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, it presents great opportunities for future growth. Dr. Bucshon released the following statement of support:

“I am pleased to see this critical investment in Ports of Indiana-Mount Vernon. Indiana is already known as the Crossroads of America, and the opportunity for this port to handle heavier and longer cargoes paired with steel shipments from new facilities will allow for it to continue to be a major gateway for agriculture, energy, and manufacturing industries,” said Dr. Bucshon. “Already serving as one of the largest inland ports in the nation, this grant will present vast opportunities for new partnerships and significant public benefits.”

Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. represents Indiana’s 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
