Dr. Bucshon Stands with McCarthy, Republican Conference

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN-08) released the following statement regarding the motion to vacate the chair of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Today, an extreme minority of House Republicans chose to join House Democrats to remove Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House of Representatives. As a member who came to Washington D.C. to provide common-sense conservative wins for Hoosiers and all Americans, this is an extremely frustrating result,” said Dr. Bucshon. “Instead of continuing our work to pass all 12 appropriations bills that cut spending, securing the southern border, and holding the Biden Administration accountable, we are taking our eye off the ball and derailing our conservative agenda. The only reason we are here is because a small number of House Republicans are focused on settling personal vendettas and prioritizing their own personal political ambitions rather than prioritizing conservative governance. Speaker McCarthy was overwhelmingly chosen last November by the House Republican Conference to be our nominee for Speaker and then received more than 200 votes in every round of his election as Speaker of the House on the House floor and has continued to have the support of the vast majority of House Republicans, as was reflected in 210 votes today.”

Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. represents Indiana’s 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
