Kidney Caucus Co-Chairs Statement on National Donor Day

WASHINGTON – Today, Representatives Larry Bucshon, MD (IN-08) and Suzan DelBene (WA-01), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Kidney Caucus, released the following statement on National Donor Day.

“Today we honor all those who have selflessly donated organs and tissue to save the lives of their families, friends, and fellow Americans. As Co-Chairs of the Congressional Kidney Caucus, we give special recognition to living donors whose acts of kindness and patriotism offer hope and a new lease on life to those awaiting kidney transplants. Their courage has a profound impact on transplant recipients and their families.”

“Every day, 17 people lose their lives waiting for a new organ, 12 of whom need a kidney. Out of the 103,000 Americans on the transplant waiting list, only a quarter received a kidney transplant in 2023. Among these, 6,200 were from living donors.”

“On National Donor Day, please join us in raising awareness of the need for donors and in thanking the individuals who have chosen to give this incredible gift—they deserve our appreciation and our support.”

Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. represents Indiana’s 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
