WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN-08) released a video, sharing some of the critical issues he hopes to hear President Biden prioritize in his State of the Union Address.

“Hi everyone, this is Dr. Larry Bucshon and I represent Indiana’s 8^th Congressional District. As Hoosiers and Americans across the country prepare to listen to President Biden’s State of the Union address, I wanted to take a moment to share some of the critical issues that I hope the President will prioritize in his speech.”

“First and foremost, the American people deserve a plan to address the rising cost of living. Record high inflation is destroying the American Dream. Over 60 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck – with food prices up 21 percent, rent up 19 percent, and electricity up 28 percent since Joe Biden took office. We must change course from the status quo and rein in Washington’s out of control spending to create an economy that’s strong for all.”

“Unleashing American energy through an all-of-the-above energy agenda is paramount to support economic growth, affordability and reliability for consumers, and global energy security. Sadly, the Biden administration has taken the opposite approach and their rush-to-green energy policies have increased prices, eliminated thousands of jobs, and made our businesses less competitive worldwide. To support the American people and ensure American energy leadership and security, we must end the war on U.S. energy.”

“Another top issue is the ongoing crisis at our southern border. The Biden administration has acted with willful disregard for U.S. immigration laws, resulting in the worst border crisis in American history. Since President Biden took office, there have been over 7.2 million illegal crossings of our southern border. That is more than the entire population of Indiana. Failure to enforce the law has empowered criminal cartels, incentivized unprecedented mass illegal immigration, put massive financial costs on cities throughout the nation, and sparked a humanitarian catastrophe. It’s past time we secure the border and bring this crisis to an end.”

“And finally, I hope to see President Biden address the rising costs of healthcare. As a cardiothoracic surgeon for more than 15 years, I’ve seen firsthand how bureaucratic red tape, and the lack of price transparency hurts patients. We must promote a more modern, innovative, and flexible healthcare agenda that emphasizes access to quality care and lower costs.”

“The American people deserve answers and clear path forward from President Biden. We cannot afford to ignore the reality of the burden of rising inflation on American families, the border crisis, the strain of soaring energy costs, and the struggle of escalating healthcare expenses. But let me be clear. Despite these challenges, I have faith in our nation. America is built on strength, innovation, and opportunity and I, along with my congressional colleagues, remain committed to safeguarding the foundational principals that make our nation great and will continue to fight for you, the American people.”
