WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN-08), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act (H.R. 6571). Dr. Bucshon introduced H.R. 6571 with U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE-At Large), which will help ensure the United States can better identify risks within our supply chains. “Hoosier industries ranging from automotive to drug manufacturing have experienced supply chain bottlenecks and shocks in recent years that have hampered production and negatively impacted consumers. Through mapping and monitoring supply chains throughout the United States, the Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act will help identify where our vulnerabilities are and how to address them, making our economy more stable and resilient going forward,” said Dr. Bucshon. “Encouraging American manufacturers to diversify their supply inputs so that they aren’t solely reliant on unpredictable and adversarial trading partners, like China, is good policy that will keep the American economy open for business no matter what is happening around the globe.” “I am extremely proud that the House has passed the Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act unanimously today,” said Rep. Blunt Rochester. “Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I have heard from Delawareans up and down our state who have been affected by shortages of goods caused by shocks to our supply chains. This bill is necessary. It will help us mobilize our government to anticipate shocks before they occur and as a result, create good-paying jobs and lower costs for consumers. I am grateful to Rep. Bucshon for his partnership on this effort and look forward to working with my colleagues to get it to President Biden’s desk for signature.” “American supply chain resiliency is key to the development and competitiveness of U.S. production and manufacturing. I thank Reps. Bucshon and Blunt Rochester for their bipartisan legislation to strengthen our supply chains and help cement our leadership in the development and deployment of emerging technologies.” – House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers BACKGROUND The Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act would establish a supply chain resiliency program within the Department of Commerce (DOC) to map, monitor, and promote U.S. supply chains in critical industries and emerging technologies; to encourage private-public partnerships to promote resilient supply chains and respond to supply chain shocks among critical industries and emerging technologies; and encourage the development and competitiveness of U.S. productive capacities and manufacturing in the U.S. The program would direct the Assistant Secretary to develop best practices through the program on how to secure supply chains. Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. represents Indiana’s 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. ### |
