Bucshon Co-sponsors Repeal of Medical Device Tax
Washington, DC,
February 7, 2013
Today, Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) signed on as an original co-sponsor to the “Protect Medical Innovation Act” put forth in a bipartisan manner by Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) and Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI). H.R. 523 would repeal the 2.3 percent excise tax on the medical industry included in the Affordable Care Act. Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states: “At a time when unemployment is stagnating around 8 percent, we cannot afford to stifle innovation and growth in one of our nation’s most advancing sectors – the medical device industry. This job killing tax has already caused companies here in Indiana, like Cook Medical Group, to put plans to expand their operation and create new jobs on hold. “As a physician, I understand the vital importance this industry plays in healthcare and have personally depended on these devices in the operating room to save the lives of my patients. It is unconscionable that the President’s healthcare law would include a tax on this life-saving industry. This tax must be repealed and I am proud to be one of the leaders in the fight to do so.” |
