President Trump will address the opioid epidemic in a speech today. “I’m expecting him to announce it’s a crisis,” said Congressman Larry Bucshon, who was invited to the White House for the address. Bucshon said about 90 Americans are dying each day from opioid overdoses. “In Vanderburgh County, we’ve already had more deaths this year than we had all of last year,” he added. “And overdoses are increasing.” Bucshon believes that federal legislation is starting to have an effect at the local level. He said the state has already received some grant funding to fight the epidemic. The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) was designed to address six pillars: prevention, treatment, recovery, law enforcement, criminal justice reform and overdose reversal. |
