Congressman tours CRADLES

After meeting with the leadership, Bucshon said the CRADLES program “is really awesome because it gives parents opportunities to go back to school and further their career at a child care rate that they can afford because that’s a big barrier, the cost of childcare.

U.S. Congressman Larry Bucshon visited CRADLES, a family learning ministry, at First Baptist Church in Brazil on Thursday afternoon.

After meeting with the leadership, Bucshon said the CRADLES program “is really awesome because it gives parents opportunities to go back to school and further their career at a child care rate that they can afford because that’s a big barrier, the cost of childcare. Some people are stuck in a cycle where they to get their GED, if they haven’t got a high school diploma or they want to go to Ivy Tech, Indiana State or another school and get a degree to advance their career and the barrier is they don’t have affordable child care. It really makes a difference.”

Bucshon talked to three couples during his visit who told him CRADLES made a “tremendous difference” in their lives.

“It’s really a great program that they are providing here for the community,” Bucshon said.

Bucshon said the CRADLES people would like to see the voucher program made more efficient and effective and he was willing to talk to legislators on behalf of the program.

Bucshon said he wants to speak with federal officials to see if money can be made available to states to support programs like CRADLES.
