Congressman Larry Bucshon Applauds Passage of H.R. 822

Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) released the following comment applauding the passage of H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry reciprocity Act of 2011 by a vote of 272-154.  Congressman Bucshon voted Yes and was a cosponsor of the bill.

Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states:

“This is a commonsense bill that will allow law-abiding citizens with a valid, state-issued concealed firearm permit to be recognized by other states that also allow concealed carry.  I am a firm believer in a citizen’s 2nd Amendment rights and this bill defends those freedoms granted in the Constitution.”

Background:

H.R. 822 does not preempt a state’s ability to set concealed-carry requirement for its residents.

H.R. 822 does not create a national registry of concealed-carry permits issued by states.  It requires states that currently issue concealed-carry permits to recognize other states’ valid concealed-carry permits.  This is similar to the states’ recognition of drivers’ licenses issued by other states.  A person visiting another state must comply with all laws and regulations pertaining to concealed-carry permits within that state.
