(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after being honored by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) for leadership as an Innovator in Biotechnology: The biotech and life science industry is an integral part of the U.S economy – creating high-skill, high-wage jobs that are innovating in the health, energy, agriculture and environmental industries. In Indiana, the biotechnology industry supports 58,018 jobs across 1,730 companies and has a $78 billion economic impact on the Hoosier economy. “I am honored to be recognized for my work in advancing common-sense legislation that incentivizes advancement in biotechnology. As a physician, I saw first-hand how the continued development of technology means that we can treat more patients and save more lives. I will continue advocating on behalf of the thousands of Hoosiers employed in the biotechnology field across the state,” said Dr. Bucshon. “Rep. Bucshon’s leadership in supporting the biotechnology industry has supported 58,018 jobs in Indiana. As we continue to grow and innovate, these good-paying jobs will not only strengthen the economy, but they will help to heal, fuel, and feed the world,” said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood. “We look forward to continuing to work with Rep. Bucshon to support these workers and the critical, life-saving work that they do in Indiana.” |
