Dr. Bucshon: Americans Are Better Off Now

“Two years ago, I joined my fellow House Republicans in laying out a smarter policy agenda called, A Better Way. The goal was to address modern day problems with modern day solutions. And we are delivering on our promises with historic tax cuts, safer communities, and a stronger military. Unemployment is at historic lows, wages are growing, and there are more jobs than there are people looking for work. We are tackling the opioid epidemic raging across our communities and have passed legislation to combat sex trafficking and help make our schools safer. We have reversed the dangerous military funding cuts of the previous decade ensuring our troops have the training, tools, and support they need to meet the national security challenges of the 21st century. Republican policies are improving lives and helping families get ahead. While there is still more work to be done, Americans are better off now.”
Dr. Bucshon

A Booming Economy

After historic tax cuts and regulatory rollbacks, unemployment is at historic lows, job openings are at record highs, paychecks are growing, wages are rising, and economic optimism is growing. 3.7 million American jobs have been created since November 2016 — 1 million of those since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act became law. In June there were 6.7 million job openings, marking the first time since 2000 that there have been more job openings than those who are unemployed. With more job opportunities and lower unemployment, consumer confidence is on the rise and Americans are finally having a chance to become full participants in our economy and achieve the American Dream.

Safer Communities

The American people are Better Off Now because Republicans have taken the lead to combat threats facing our communities and young people. We’re making a $4 billion investment to stop the opioid crisis. The House has passed dozens of bills to fight human trafficking, and as a result, online advertising for commercial sex trafficking has gone down by 60-80%. Important legislation and $2 billion in resources, including the STOP School Violence Act are making schools safer and addressing our mental health challenges.

A Stronger Military

After eight years of our military forces languishing under reduced spending and cuts, Republican efforts are bringing our armed forces out of this self-induced readiness crisis and restoring America’s military might. We’ve gotten tougher than ever in combating ISIS and other terrorist organizations, as well as potential nuclear threats like North Korea and Iran – and restoring the strength of our armed forces has been crucial in the progress we’ve made. The National Defense Authorization Act of 2018 provided a 2.4 percent pay raise. This well-deserved pay raise is the largest raise in eight years and is an important way to show our thanks.
