Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 50, the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act.  H.R. 50 would require more complete information be made available regarding the cost and economic impact of unfunded mandates on state, local, and tribal governments and the private sector.

“H.R. 50 is a simple bill with a simple, common-sense idea,” said Bucshon. “The American people deserve to know – and the federal government should take into account– the full cost and economic impact of unfunded mandates imposed by Washington, D.C.  This isn’t a new idea. In fact, in this bill, we strengthen policy that was passed by both parties in the ‘95 Congress and signed into law by President Clinton. There is bipartisan support for more transparency in the regulatory process. I’m not sure anyone can come up with a solid argument for why the government should have the ability to levy unfunded mandates behind closed doors. Consulting with state and local governments and private sector job creators, ensures that regulations and unfunded mandates aren’t making it more difficult for small businesses to pay the bills and hire new employees.”

Congressman Larry Bucshon, a physician from Southern Indiana, is serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In the 114th Congress, Bucshon will serve on the influential House Committee on Energy and Commerce.  The 8th District of Indiana includes all or parts of Clay, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Greene, Knox, Martin, Owen, Parke, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Sullivan, Vanderburgh, Vermillion, Vigo, and Warrick counties.
