Paycheck Protection Program Runs Dry Due to Democrat Obstruction

(Washington, D.C.) –
Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08) released the following statement condemning actions of Democrats to obstruct further funding of the Paycheck Protection Program intended to help American on Main Street:

“Small businesses that employ millions of Hoosiers, and Americans nationwide, are in grave danger of closing their doors permanently through no fault of their own. The CARES Act implemented the Paycheck Protection Program which has so far provided more than 1.4 million loans granted to small businesses, totaling nearly $350 billion in loans.

“I have spent time talking to small businesses in Southwest and West Central Indiana, and one fact is certain—this program is working and is providing the lifeline they need to keep the lights on and their employees paid. Now, due to its popularity, the program has run out of funds and Main Street businesses will no longer be able to access job saving funds if Congress does not allocate more money. When faced with the opportunity to provide additional funding before the well ran dry, Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader Schumer stood in the way of a clean bill to add additional funding, opting to push their own political agenda instead of helping Main Street businesses. I am appalled at any politician who is using this crisis to further their own agenda over the wellbeing of the American people. It is time for the Democrats to stop their shameful obstruction so Congress can provide further funding to this vital program.”
