(Evansville, IN) – Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) released the following comment on the March jobless rate. The rate decreased to 8.2 percent from 8.3 percent the previous month. Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states: “The small decrease in the unemployment rate is welcoming news for those Americans that were able to find jobs. Unfortunately, many Americans have given up their search for meaningful work as people not in the labor force is at an all time high. “The smallest increase in job creation since October is proof that the President’s policies have failed to revive the economy and get America working again. In fact, the failure is magnified based on the Obama administration’s prediction that unemployment would be below 6 percent today if the Stimulus were enacted. “As I travel the 8th district this week and next, I am meeting with Hoosier families and small business owners to help Southwestern Indiana and the Wabash Valley reach its full potential. Next week, I am hosting a Jobs Fair in Terre Haute with more than 50 employers needing to fill open positions. These are steps in the right direction to bring our common sense, Hoosier values back to Washington, D.C.” Background: Congressman Bucshon will be hosting a Jobs Fair in Terre Haute on Wednesday, April 11th and in Evansville on Tuesday, May 22nd. More information can be found here. Since President Obama took office, 4.683 million people have dropped out of the labor force. Currently, over 87 million Americans are not in the labor force. Employers added 120,000 jobs last month, the smallest increase since October. The unemployment rate has been over 8 percent for 38 consecutive months beginning in February 2009. ### |
