Dr. Bucshon’s Statement on Article of Impeachment Moving to the Senate

(Washington, D.C.) –
Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08 released the following statement after the House of Representatives formally transmitted the articles of impeachment of former President Donald Trump to the U.S. Senate:

“To impeach a President is a serious course of action that should not be taken lightly. Unfortunately, House Democrats muddled the meaning of impeachment and left out due process in the House of Representatives with their latest impeachment of former President Donald Trump – no hearings, no witnesses, and no due process to speak of. House Democrats sat on the article of impeachment for almost two weeks and have finally decided to transmit the article to the Senate after President Trump has left office, calling into questions the constitutionality of the entire process in the Senate. Furthermore, this impeachment trial will take valuable time and focus away from important priorities that the American people are counting on Congress for – COVID-19 relief, economic recovery, and much more.  President Trump is no longer in office and it is time for Congressional Democrats to move on and focus on how as a nation we can move forward together instead of remaining stuck in the past by pursuing a divisive and partisan impeachment trial in the Senate.”
