WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN-08) issued the following statement after President Joe Biden signed the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act, which will help expand the use of nuclear energy, into law today. This legislation, which was included as a section of S. 870, included Representative Bucshon’s Advanced Reactor Fee Reduction Act (H.R. 6326), which he introduced with U.S. Representative Scott Peters (D-CA-50) and was previously passed by the House as part of the Atomic Energy Advancement Act (H.R. 6544): “Reinforcing the United States’ capability to remain a global leader in nuclear technology and innovation is essential for providing Hoosiers and all Americans with a reliable, affordable, and secure energy mix,” said Dr. Bucshon. “The ADVANCE Act is game-changing legislation representing the largest reform of our nuclear power laws in a generation by working to streamline the federal licensing process through increased predictability, efficiency, and lower costs while further developing a highly skilled workforce capable of making these critical energy projects a reality. The ADVANCE Act is the culmination of significant work done by the Energy and Commerce Committee under the leadership of Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Energy Subcommittee Chair Jeff Duncan and other congressional leaders, and I am proud to see my legislation signed into law as a part of this comprehensive energy package that prioritizes a bipartisan approach to bolstering America’s energy dominance for future generations.” Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. represents Indiana’s 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. ### |
